Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 Original Art By Junior Gosse, Veteran This stunning hand-crafted original wooden piece of art measures 10.5 inches long. Junior Gosse, MMM, CD. Junior was born and grew up in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. As a young boy he always had a pocket knife to whittle a branch or a pencil to sketch a picture. Unbeknownst to him at the time, woodcarving and art would later become part of his life. Junior started his military career as an infantryman with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and later became a military policeman in the Canadian Armed Forces. He served with the Army, Navy and Air Force, in Canada and abroad, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. A highlight of his military career was his role in helping six American hostages escape Teheran, Iran during the American hostage crisis of 1979/1980. This operation formed the basis of two movies; Argo starring Ben Affleck as CIA operative Tony Mendez, and the lesser known movie, The Canadian Caper, starring Gordon Pinsent as Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. Junior was stationed at the Canadian Embassy at the time and played a role in the escape, the details of which were kept Top Secret for many years. Art and woodcarving have become therapeutic platforms as he recovers from injuries sustained during his military service. Attention to detail was a big part of Junior’s career as an investigator, and this, combined with a passion for art, guides him when he is painting or wood carving. Junior resides in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia with his wife Judy and have two sons and two grandchildren.
