Artist Statement "RESPECT | Manaaji’idiwin (manaah-jee-edee-win)" By: Patrick Hunter “Manaaji’idiwin” means “respect” in Ojibwe. For this helmet design I wanted it to embody manaaji’idiwin to the soldiers who paid the ultimate price for Canadian freedom. The symbol of the poppy was transformed to the Woodland art style, and painted onto a green helmet, symbolizing the land that was fought for, protected, and hard won. While it can never cover the cost that Canadian soldiers paid, I hope it conveys my manaaji’idiwin to them in some small way. Artist Bio Patrick is an award winning 2Spirit, Ojibwe (O-JIB-WAY) artist, graphic designer and entrepreneur from Red Lake, ON. He is most known for his Woodland style paintings, and Orange Shirt Day designs, but has also been making a name for himself in the world of sports through collaborations with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Premier Lacrosse League, and the 2022 Winter Olympics. He is the most recent artist to have a collectible coin launch in 2026 with the Royal Canadian Mint. When not collaborating with exciting international brands, Patrick is creating awareness about his Ojibwe roots and inspiring creative confidence through in-person and virtual paint classes across North America. Dividing his time between Toronto, and his studio in Batchawana Bay, he also makes regular journeys home to Red Lake to stay inspired, be with family, and reconnect with the land.
